The starting point of this series is a set of memories of hidden places outside the big cities, where leftover architectural markers merge with the surrounding nature. Somehow, places where nature and man-made structures come together have a stillness and tranquillity to them. While a large part of our land is dominated and controlled by people, in quieter places away from the humdrum of society, nature and human traces merge more equally.
Through this series of imaginative landscapes, I am searching for the tipping point between nature and human traces, the recognisable and the surreal, day and night. Each landscape is built by hand on a small scale and then photographed. Frozen in an everlasting twilight, every landscape depicts certain vagabond buildings that can be seen as leftovers of an earlier history, but also as places in which one can seek shelter. The colourful tiles that are omnipresent in this series represent the human tendency to shape and control their environments in rhythmic and mathematical ways.
