Threshold

Threshold is an ongoing series of photographic and video works in which Hoogerwerf builds small-scale landscapes suspended between presence and absence. A tent that glows without an occupant. A jetty leading nowhere. Chairs waiting for a conversation that has already ended.

The works reveal traces of human life within a world that carries on without us: light that stays lit, seasons that keep repeating, water that rises and recedes. Nothing in these landscapes is explained; everything is suggested.

Threshold offers no question with a clear answer. It is a moment suspended just before or just after something happens, leaving the viewer to decide what has taken place, or what is still to come.
